The Need for Speed | Developing Speed! 🏃🏽‍♂️💨

Most of us know that speed is on the top of the list when it comes to athletic traits to have. Athletes who are fast tend to jump the highest, hit the hardest, and redirect and make game-changing plays more often than athletes who are slower! This is the main reason why speed is often at the forefront of athletic development!

The more power and strength an athlete possesses, the more speed will show up. Explosive power is the key to unlock the ability to generate maximal force in minimal time! Think of the sprinter firing off the starting blocks, the basketball player elevating for a slam dunk, or the soccer player performing a swift change of direction to escape defenders. These moments require rapid and forceful movements that can only be maximized through a consistent training program!

I use a variety of exercises and drills during training to develop speed. For example, the speed resistance belt is one of the tools I utilize to generate acceleration and power by building the hips, quads, hamstrings, calves and glutes.

The resistance from the belt helps maximize leg drive and heavily recruits those "fast-twitch" muscle fibers that are needed to run faster! It also assists with that forward lean that's beneficial with sprinting form!

Like the old saying goes, "speed kills", so there is a need for speed if you desire optimal sports performance and a competitive advantage over your opponents!
